Everything you like about it is in Orange County with none of the downsides.

Went to LA last weekend, spent most of our time in Santa Monica.

-- I generally hate cities, but LA feels less claustrophobic than most. Admittedly, I really only saw the West half of the city, so I'm sure there are plenty of horrendous places, but I didn't see them. There's really something to be said for living in a place that's easy to look at, and basically everywhere I was either looked pretty or was on the beach.

-- There is infinite good food, and it costs plenty of money. Didn't have a single bad meal there. Breakfast for two somewhere cheap is $40. Somewhere a little expensive, it's $100. Eating at nice restaurants is basically the only recreational use I have for a city. Everything else I like to do requires land and space. Gas is $5/gallon.

-- Traffic, surprisingly, was not bad, but I also wasn't trying to drive on the highway during rush hour so I don't really have an especially good assessment of this.

I see why people live there, and if I had infinite money and wanted to live in a shitlib city I might too, but imo it's best as a place to visit.

While I enjoy SD for the tourism and visits I would go insane living there. LA has a lot more intellect, it's grittier, has more going on and more to say for itself. If you criteria is safe beach neighborhood you could choose anywhere in coastal CA. I would much rather live in Santa Barbara County than Oceanside or La Jolla. Fact is LA has the verve to it. So much more to do. It also depends on your personal aversion to proles. I can't stand regular people and never have. LA has elites and SD never will.

Oceanside is a dump with violent minorities. But la jolla is really 180. LA has jumped up proles pretending to be elite when they work in the faggot film industry which is one step above carnies
