The ones who retire at 42 as lieutenant colonels. What happens to these guys? They're getting out of the military with a ton of leadership experience and a pension that gives them a lot of flexibility. In theory, they could be doing some great things. But you don't really hear about that. Some run for political office but not many. A lot seem to just fade away. What else do they do?

Booz Allen or another defense contractor. Some 3 letter agency. The big tech companies hire some of them as sales guys (rarely lasts beyond a couple years). Or a lot of these folks have a small business idea, most commonly residential real estate flipping or rental management.
