there's no species of fish that benefits from giant river otters. They don't do any pest control or affect the ecosystem in any meaningful way. No animal relies on them as prey and they aren't pleasant to keep in captivity

I brought my kids to the zoo today. The river otters were swimming around all over the place and right up to the glass in their enclosure. They were one of my kids' favorites.

Hey fuck you, man. Giant river otters are aquatic golden retriever extrovert chads, and they’re incredibly 180. They’re not for you, bro. Maybe stick to the desert tortoise and the kiwi bird. They seem more your speed:
The Kiwi bird is a zoomorphized poaster. They’re nebbish, raf-faced skinnyfats balancing on toothpick legs. Like NSAM, they’re nocturnal, highly sensitive, and completely terrified of interaction. If a kiwi senses anything—or anyone—approaching, its default response is to panic, clumsily trip over its own oversized feet, and bolt into the dense underbrush to hide. Uncanny.

Field research in the past five years is suggesting that river otters are capable of building underwater structures to a degree and an extent not previously appreciated. Some of the findings have been startling—radiographic imaging indicating underground superstructures connected into riverine beds. Difficult to trace signal emissions too which scientists haven’t been able to make heads or tails of. There is a well-funded NAS / DoD expedition into South America launching later this month that is intended to explore some of the most promising structures.
