My aunt and uncle are in their 70s and still really into each other. Neither of them are remotely fuckable. Idk if they bang or not but they still seem in love. They really have the magic where they seem to still really be excited by each other's presence and do shit together all the time.
that's 180. i love old people who are in love. i know some of those too so that's not mysterious to me - they've clearly liked and respected each other all along. i'm more curious about the dudes who hate their wives and if they ever liked them or what. this was inspired by https://xoxohth.com/thread.php?thread_id=5908224&forum_id=2

Maybe if they got married really young and grew into totally different people. Like at 18 you have no idea who you are and what you want out of life and neither does the other person. So I think maybe even like up to 23 or 25 possibly if you get married and your life changes a lot, maybe financially over time, and two people grow into super different people with different wants and needs than maybe you don't like each other but are staying together for the kids? But yeah it would be weird for a person over say 27 to get married and really not like their spouse at all or have never liked them.
yeah i'm curious if that's what happened or what. that's valid, although i don't see poas as generally being social enough to find a life partner too early in life. but i'm anticipating people like the hot tub poaster potentially saying something like, "i always found her annoying in certain ways but i had someone decent-looking to have sex with and procreate with, so i was able to enjoy my time with her. now that she's given me kids and she's fat, there's nothing balancing out the annoyingness so i just hate being around her." but who knows.

It's tough to find somebody who you can grow with over time in the era of hyper individualism. This semi related clip hit me kinda hard. Like an old XO poast telling an unspeakable truth.

I don't think premarital sex is the problem. I just think that today we are all so different from each other — everyone — and that is why it can be really difficult to find someone with the same lifestyle and goals that really are a longterm match. I think this is why people tend to go through phases of finding partners and they are in love with them for a time and then that time fades and now they're in a different phase and a new person comes along. The Belgian woman is right. We are all serial monogamists to the extent we practice it at all. To answer the OP I assume spouses hate each other because they've outgrown each other but feel like they have to stick it out for the kids or money or social or religious reasons. To people without kids you just move on when it's time to move on. But in the world today rarely are we ever stuck without options. We may desire to find that all encompassing partner who checks every box but if it doesn't come about we just go with the best available option around.
