Nah - baseball was just a better product then.

1. Players played much longer and stayed on the same team. It's just a much more compelling sport when you have mostly 13 year veterans vs now when its all team-controlled 23 year olds.

2. Better storylines. Red Sox and Cubs had historic curses. Yankees were the evil empire. Braves dynasty on TBS.

3. World Series still mattered. People would still watch Sunday Night Baseball. Now baseball is entirely regional and no one watches the World Series. In the 90s watching baseball was taking part of the culture, in 2026 its a niche hobby.

Agreed that the game itself wasn't better. It was sort of boring at the time. But there was no phone to whip out of your pocket to distract you.

Sportscenter sucking shit is also a big part of it. I hardly ever actually watched a full game as a kid but knew who almost every player in the league was. now I can name like maybe 10.

now it's scott van pelt's bald head and always some half dyke chick acting like she's "one of the guys"

so awesome. thanks for the trip down childhood memory lane. as i get on in middle age, i increasingly find myself searching for the good things in my past to remind me of the innocent days of my youth.

It was better for so many reasons. People went to the games to actually see a game, not check out the stadium amenities. Generally games were an uncomfortable experience. Hot, poor sight lines, bad food. If you want to experience a game now you are better off heading to a low minor league game somewhere really remote. But you'll find 97% of the players are hispanic which is its own unusual dynamic.

Plus some WWF sized guy walking up to the plate and yoking a ball 450 feet as the crowd continues to cheer from their cheer before he hit it. Now it’s a bunch of broccoli haired teens striking out and eventually hitting a home run.
