i like the author's style. he's very upfront about potential weaknesses/criticisms and tackles them fairly honestly.
however, he's essentially just discussing tribalism. which is certainly very real and occurs across all social strata and can be a variety of things like race, religion, nationality, etc.
his specific argument falls apart because he is both asserting that it's probably one sect because of their dogmas but also that adherence to that dogma isn't necessary. that doesnt make much sense, it would be like me saying a group of people are likely devout jews because none eat bacon, while dismissing evidence of them eating shelfish as irrelevant.
ultimately i know this isn't true because im a janissary for elites. |
