Basically you take high-quality prose, academic language, and seemingly rational frameworks to argue a thesis that is fundamentally absurd, deeply offensive, or aggressively wrong. The scam targets smart educated people with high intellectual vanity. Easy to run on substack where you set it up so people have to subscribe in order to leave a comment. People can't resist paying the 10 bucks just to try to refute you. AI can seriously accelerate brainstorming and generation for this type of content. |

I'll have text on the screen that explains it's an intellectual exercise and lists the assigned position and opponent, so I can't get clipped and canceled. I think it's worth setting up and trying a few streams to see if it catches on. There are fun ways I could incorporate channel points and eventually donations. I'll also post each debate on YouTube; maybe I could promise to respond to any paid comment.
Not the exact same thing – I won't intentionally make bad arguments – but similarly designed to get engagement by exploiting people's argumentative impulses. |

I'm thinking about doing it but not pure scammy stuff, more like heterodox intellectual stuff, dismantling of consensus opinions across fields but in a more aggressive prosecutorial style than you can do in academia without all the hedging etc. and avoid culturewar-adjacent material to keep from getting "cancelled". I have a few really good ones I have been sitting on to drop right away to let people know I'm cooking. Not worried about failure, because I'm unemployed right now and feel like doing it anyway. This creates a perfect leverage point for asymmetric marketing where you redirect traffic from all the refugee and meta subs that form from the people who get banned from the main subs. Tons of people who hate consensus who hang out there, and all thanks to the mods on the main subs. A viewer comes up with a one-sentence thesis for me to defend. I'm allowed to ask questions and refine it with them, and when we finalize the position, I put it on screen. Then, the viewer makes their case first, arguing against the thesis they assigned me.
To start, I think it's OK to just have the opponent argue in chat (rather than calling in). I'll have their messages isolated in one area of the screen and will address them directly but I'll also pay attention to the rest of chat. The female factor works for me here because of the personalized attention.
I've been practicing with chatbot-assigned positions and it's been easy so far. |
