American Progressives/Liberals have co-opted and deployed the ideology and strategies that Mao Zedong developed and utilized as a way to maintain control of the Chinese Communist Party during his twilight years and for his ideological successors.

After studying the history of Dynastic China, which was a "Loser Lose All" system, where the new dynasty would utterly decimate and purge the old one - Mao Zedong developed the ideology of "Constant Revolution" to counteract these inevitable forces that would erode and ultimately reduce even the strongest ideologies.

"Constant Revolution," involved focusing the attention of the population away from the actions of the ruling party through Media, Slogans, Social Movements and other forms of propaganda and refocusing the attention of the masses on increasingly fringe or unrealistic "Revolutionary Causes" not for the sake of revolution against the oppressor, but for the sake of population control as the oppressor.

This constant focus on new revolutionary causes was not for the sake of revolution to overturn any real external enemies however, it was designed as a method of distraction to keep the people's aggression and hatred focused on the "external" or "other" as their own internal society declined, with quality of life and society massively suffering under the rule of the Communist Party during this time.

This "Constant Revolution" enabled the ruling party to maintain power and continuity even in the face of abject social failures such as famines, natural disasters or other social disturbances which typically spelled the end of a Dynasty's Heavenly Mandate in China. Due to the population being distracted and unable to form a true revolutionary force able to claim the Mandate of Heaven, the Communist Party was able to buy itself more time to figure out how to appease the masses in their lands - and to survive as rulers of the society.

This method of mass distraction via "Constant Revolution" allows the ruling class of the country where this method is practiced to carry on unquestioned and unexamined as they achieved their goals of power consolidation and wealth/resource accumulation, using political causes as merely a means to an end to redistribute wealth and control in their favor - something that is not revolutionary and is in fact as old as the earliest complex human societies.

Much in the same way, the Progressive leaders of the United States employ these exact tactics of "Constant Revolution" on a local, state and national level in order to keep the population distracted from their various thefts and corruption on all levels of the society.

In the United States, the focus of "Constant Revolution" is not the oppressive landlord of feudal China or the highly literate scholar gentry, instead it is about achieving an increasingly large amount of rights and forced social acceptance of fringe groups, as that helps marginalize the larger, more productive and less state-dependent majority groups of the society in an effort to create a network of social dependence and to ultimately destabilize the society.

In the United States we are beginning to see this system more for what it is for one simple reason: The causes championed by these groups become increasingly rarefied and decadent as Progressives "run out" of causes to champion.

The arc of Progressivism towards increasingly rarefied and more socially unacceptable groups is no coincidence and is instead a necessity required by their "Constant Revolution" system in America.

A prime example of this phenomena of the "Constant Revolution Continuum" in American thought has to do with the trajectory of the LGBT movement over the past fifty years and its interplay with media and social norms during this time in the aftermath of the Civil Rights era.

LGBT was the next major group that required revolutionary focus after the racial issues Civil Rights era, which was rooted in legitimate social problems that eventually needed to be addressed. Once Black America (13% or so of the population) received increased rights and protections from society, it became necessary for the fringe to move on and refocus the revolutionary impulse to LGBT rights - not for the sake of helping these groups - but in order to use their problems as a method of acquiring and retaining power.

Gay Rights was the next cause that was championed by the Liberal and Progressive left, a cause that is on the surface somewhat legitimate, at least in the term of overall percentage of the population and their treatment historically - where Gay people are probably 2-5% of the total population and were often viciously persecuted or marginalized.

However, within the last two decades, LGBT has become increasingly accepted by society to the point where it has lost any power to inspire revolutionary sentiments in the population, and thus creates the risk of the population becoming focused on other issues that are causing them major problems such as economic devastation, unchecked immigration or the proliferation of drugs in society.

With the acceptance of Gay marriage in the United States in the last decade, American Progressives needed to move their "Constant Revolution" further into fringe areas to keep the "Constant Revolution" alive.

What is the the next fringe area? Trans Rights. With Transgender individuals at between 0.6% and 1% of the population, it becomes increasingly clear that the practitioners of "Constant Revolution" have been working their way across society into increasingly fringe and smaller minority segments. This is no accident - they have simply been exhausting their supply of useful idiots and are required to dig deeper and deeper to find more groups in need of "help."

As a result of this focus on these groups, the corruption, bribery, cronyism, sex abuse and other misdeeds that are perpetrated by the governments and other institutions that have fallen under the control of the Progressive Elite are allowed to continue almost without question. Governments in Progressive strongholds are extremely one sided - such as in the urban centers of places like California, Oregon, Seattle and New York - where there is no longer a two party system and instead a single party, the Progressive Party, or more properly termed the American Maoist Party.

do you consider this a parallel to the trans rights movement in the US? That's what I mean. I agree with you btw. The 4 pests campaign seemed like it was a massive directive whereas trans rights are still fringe. Even with the media forcememe of this (which is mostly online, because boomer tv watchers would be revolted seeing some dude in a dress on tv) this still seems like a fringe movement (which is in line with your thesis). this adds another dimension - as they push increasingly toward movements that have less appeal/volume does the likelihood that the people reject this movement/are repulsed by/revolt against it increase?

I consider it an example of illustrative of popular attention being deliberately focused on a random issue or manufactured cause to the long term detriment of the popular good.

For example with trans stuff, it has always existed throughout history (Rome, Indonesia, Native Americans, India, Japan) as a curious minority group - but when has it been co-opted and utilized by the political actors in a country on such a pervasive level? I would say only here, only now.

good poast

i think it's also worth pointing out that a big difference between mao's Cultural Revolution and the one happening right now is that mao's was much more top-down than what is happening in the US right now. it's true that there are some elite interests backing certain parts of our cultural revolution to various degrees, but much of it is genuine bottom-up rebellion by younger people who are trying to carve out favorable treatment and status for themselves

mao's red guards ultimately served and were directed by mao and his clique. there is no mao in the current US and no structured plan - it's just bioleninist undesirables all grabbing for power and status however they can. that makes our present situation a lot scarier/more volatile than the situation in china. once mao was deposed and the gang of 4 dealt with, the chaos died out pretty quick and that was that. here? who fucking knows how insane things will get

another thing worth pointing out is the similarity in the makeup of the soldiers of the cultural revolution in both times and places: most of them are/were young. the red guards were an entirely youth movement and the various "woke" individuals and factions in the US now are are quite young. what these young people are really after is status, just like the red guards were in china. both rebellions are/were most essentially a rebellion by young people against older, established people as a struggle for status. the struggle sessions then and now are all essentially just young people extorting or bullying older people in an attempt to usurp their socioeconomic positions and status

this means that until "we" explicitly put a stop to this trend, things will just keep getting more and more extreme. in a few years there will be younger, even more rabid and unhinged kids trying to unseat the AOCs and the ilhan omars. it will spiral more and more out of control with much more chaos and violence. in china, it only ever stopped because there was still Party leadership other than mao who were smart, organized, and still had enough power and influence to re-take control and bring society back to relative normalcy. but we have no deng xiaoping today in the US. we have a bunch of incompetent faux-elite eloi midwits who no one actually trusts or respects and who would never be able to successfully take back control and steer us away from runaway clown world (if they could, they would have done it already)

we're in for a wild ride bros

You're right that it's is a genuine bottom-up revolution from young people. Xo never really recognizes the root cause of all of their anger and angst and posters rarely recognize that they exhibit many of the "angry young revolutionary" tendencies of their leftist counterparts. Young people were sold a bill of goods about how America is full of promise and if you work hard you'll live a happy life and be better off than your parents. Reality hasn't panned out that way. Even successful young people feel an inordinate amount of stress just to keep up and stay afloat. Each new generation is unhappier than the last. Few young people respect the system and the old people who vehemently defend it, because it seems so obviously stacked against them and unable to meet the needs of younger generations. In these conditions it's inevitable that young people are going to question the values of older generations. They're going to question the philosophical underpinnings of our economic and political system. They're going to question traditional American narratives. That's not crazy or wild. It's expected.

You can't have each new generation falling further behind. If we had a similar distribution of opportunity and wealth as we did right after WW2 this little "revolution" would melt away immediately.

Most definitely.

There are many different ways to Greentech grift and Greenwash

One famous fraud during Obama's time that got memory holed by the media was Solyndra.

One thing that also interested me was the fact that all this negative rhetoric around oil may actually drive oil prices up in the United States now as the environment favors larger more well integrated majors and supermajors who have the capacity to maneuver in a hostile environment relative to smaller companies.
