Received a pretty sizeable inheritance recently. Thinking about just yolo’ing into VTI. Would keep about $200k in cash. Also will have about 550k in an inherited IRA that I have to withdraw over 10 years so I don’t get murdered on taxes (more so than I do already)

That is my inclination because I’m risk averse but I could see this market either crashing hard or going parabolic over the next 6 months.

Don’t need the money for anything in the near or medium term — Ultimate goal is to get to early retirement in next 10-12 years so can hold through a downturn

My thought process with $1m would be:

1. Pay off my mortgage (6.49%, $372,000 balance)

2. Money market for liquidity (I’d like $107,000 more than I have now)

3. Kids’ 529s, I’ve got about $8,000 more in contributions this year.

4. DCA into taxable brokerage. Probably over 6 months.

That sounds reasonable. I hit the Covid interest rate lottery and have a mortgage at 2.6 which I will never pay off early. May use some of the cash to fund 529s as well

Yes, and I basically did this a year ago. But only because I’ve got a solid decade before even early retirement.
