My Buddy made a pretty sick baseball pitching device that became popular on IG. He sells for $250. 4 months later TEMU has a knockoff for $36 lol

It's pretty much all junk and their business model is insane. Would not work at any other time in history and highlights just how bizarre the US trade relationship with China really is

Chinese IP theft is a very real problem, but at the same time who wants to pay $250 for a baseball launcher.

Agreed and it’s not even a machine that you need to spend a lot on. This is some square that you throw the ball into the specific pockets lol.

this type of thinking that focuses only on the relative cost of things in real time is what led to the vicious cycle were in.

people have limited resources, they'd like things to be cheaper, and so they do something that makes things cheaper even though it makes the total amount of resources less. offshore a company and you might be better off, but we're collectively poorer, and over time you will be poorer too.

turns out paying $250 to your neighbor for a baseball launcher means that $250 stays in your community and might flow back to you. but paying $50 to another country means it's gone. do that enough times and you'll be poorer overall, leading you to seek to reduce costs. then one day you wake up and you're living in a consumer state and produce nothing.

Chinese companies have been doing this for decades. All over the world. This is why you never do hardware. Software they have a difficult time copying.
