Date: January 31st, 2025 1:31 PM Author: Jade idiot it was clear that nick was self-destructing and that stav was getting sick of it. what wasn't so apparent is how much stav did beyond being the laugh track. he's kind of like opie in that he moved the show along and got things done behind the scenes, except stav is actually independently funny. i remember stav would be the only one plugging shows at the end of episodes. also nick's RDR2 depression phase where you could hear stav be like "c'mon man."
i saw stav once live during the cumtown heyday and he was legit very funny. it was surprising. it's pretty admirable that he was fine with his role being to facilitate nick. nick is one of the funniest people ever but needs people to manage him. adam can't because he is completely defendant on him, whereas stav wasn't. |

Date: January 31st, 2025 2:38 PM Author: Magenta Vigorous Really Tough Guy the three of them made a good trio with a headliner, a competent goofball to play off the star's riffs, and a heel. nick and adam alone would not have worked and ultimately didn't work because it lacked stav's levity. stav is competent on his own but he is not clever, his stupid appearance gives him a leg up and provides cheap content, and most of that content otherwise is just faggy sex shit. he might have real chops if he tried but he's a dirtbag and is happy to float by on dirtbag jokes. i guess he can succeed on his own whereas nick and adam couldn't (i also don't like nick's solo standup) but he's not any better than the milieu mainstream comedy garbage. stav is a great bert kreischer type who is fine wallowing in his degeneracy and stupidity and making an ass of himself. he's never going to be funny in an insight or clever way, and he doesn't try to be. and just like bert he has a strong work ethic.
nick's wheelhouse is riffing in a cynical and sometimes smart way. that doesn't translate to doing an actual performance like stand up comedy. and with the adam friedland show you can tell he hates doing it authentically. everything is cynical and implicitly about how shitty something is. |
