Miami actually doesn't have a lot of political power on the state as a whole, it's an outlier in this respect, and is given over to a style of governance i'd describe as "lusotropical anarchy" or "mercantile chaos" which has benefits and detriments to it but by and large its also getting yoked and gentrified into another yuppie colony full of dead neighborhoods and tacky native run tourist enclaves

We have a lot of old school southern blacks here and a good deal of hispanics but both are relatively settled and integrated, probably because of cultural policies and a strong and (hate to say it libs) relatively impartial and professional policing policy that emphasizes community ties over endless no knock raids and whatever else happens in Gates' LA. As with much of the South in general, there are very few asians or subcontinentals. No west coast recruiting jobs to chase and the sun belt economic revival benefited white and to some extent black dominated industries at the time. This will probably lead to another political demographic rebalancing in the near future as the neoliberal/neocon consensus on the left-centre has been castigated by political and economic realities and something similar will probably happen on the right. Very normal stuff if you're familiar with how the two parties in the country interact with each other (happens in fits every single electoral cycle, more general or drastic realignments every couple of decades) in the historical narrative but it seems like there's a battle going on to keep that from happening at present.
