there are a lot of guys from that era that seem completely unknown now. how many people know Bateson, Toffler, McLuhan, Rollo May, et cetera.
everyone just leaps over the mid-century intellectuals and goes back to the interwar period or further back to Nietzsche.
I remember reading some of Bateson on the double-bind/schizophrenia. but the person I felt developed the idea better was RD Laing (another forgotten mid-century intellectual).
