You absolutely do not. I've never understood massively high refresh rates. Above 120hz is dumb IMO. My newest laptop has a 240hz OLED and I never run it at above 120hz. You're asking the GPU to push 2x the pixels which for new games means dropping settings even if you're playing on a 5080.

They're 100% credited. At this point I can't imagine using anything else. You can also just get the latest 42 or 48" LG C series TV. I have 2 of these (1 for work, 1 for personal). I've been doing this for years.
For laptop displays, I pretty much only get OLED displays for the past 5 years. I got one miniled as an exception and OLED is, of course, better.

I tried it for an hour and realized I couldn't tell at all. 60 to 120hz is noticeable but I agree that past that is pointless.

100% accurate. Plus, if you're playing a AAA game at 4k, 120hz is the max you can do assuming you have an absolute top of the line graphics card and CPU without dropping settings down. Asking your system to push 2x the pixels for 240hz or 3x for 360 or 4x for 480 is dumb as shit.
