It's not dumb to do, the media calls Trump a racist all day long anyways, so it's nice to see him ignore it and speak openly about race. Why shouldn't he talk like that about Harris, she's half-Jamaican raised by an Indian mother in Canada and married a Jewish guy - and with that, Harris's main pitch is basically "I'm black y'all." It's the first time I can remember that a GOP POTUS candidate actually chose to speak truthfully about race instead of tip-toeing the minefield of lib rules about race (especially considering he's going to be called a racist no matter what he does).
EDIT: also, these "rules" of how conservatives can talk about race only apply to conservatives, libs can be as traditionally racist as they want to be - so why should Trump accept this rigged game?

I would go as far as saying it worked reasonably well against Joe in 2020, and could’ve worked even better, but Trump had too many other liabilities up to and including getting fucking Covid right after the first debate, which helped Biden 1) avoid one of the debates entirely, and 2) undermine the age attack/liability by making Trump look weak and infirm.
Am I saying that bashing Trump as too old is the decisive issue that will lose the election for him? No. But this is part of the broader set of problems Trump has that are a threat to lose the whole race. It’s why the vibes are off. The problem with being a winner in the 2024 attention economy is that you always have to keep generating things that gain attention. And the more you recycle bits and rely on your incumbent status the greater the risk is to you that seeing you get taken down is a much better attention grabber than seeing you muddle through a process that the audience has already watched you go through twice. |
