I don't know, I've planned rewatching it marathon style with an ex at some point during the next month or two. Probably will attempt at a Lacanian take on it this go-around Don't really identify with any of the characters personally but last time I watched a couple of the later episodes I thought of Gendo as a mixture of a more mature Miltonian Lucifer and the gnostic Abraxes. EVA is pretty open ended thematically and I think the readings where it's all metaphor for Shinji's psychological processes/finishing his coming-of-age period are some of the less interesting interpretations. It's one of those more scarce pieces of media where every time I engage with it as art there's some new drastically different interpretation to be mined from the minds of the Gainax geniuses |
