120 bad break but that should be a penalty and he needs to be more careful.

what’s messed up is that wyndham clark has gotten away with this shit on tour and at the us open he “won” when he was looking right at the ball and should have noticed.

this with lowry today otoh i was watching live on the r&a featured group coverage and they cut to the other angle quicker which showed he wasn’t even looking at the ball when it moved so obviously he had no idea

Ty for the golf scholarship as always.

If they weren’t in the featured group would anyone have noticed this?

would anyone have noticed if it wasn’t on tv? no

but the clip you linked in op was from the usa network coverage not the featured group stream if that’s what’s you’re asking. same cameras shooting but different announcers and like i said cut slightly differently. the usa feed stays with the angle from behind longer whereas in the featured group coverage it cut to his face quicker and you could tell he wasn’t looking when it moved

I really don't see the ball moving, golf could really stand to institute some more prestigious rules that take into account both intent and the actual impact of the little shit like this

they should also make all fairways lift clean and place but old doods just can't imagine not being dicks

lol at not seeing the ball move. i noticed it immediately watching it live

the only thing messed up is that you get two strokes in this situation. the extra one for playing the ball without replacing it when there’s no way he could know it moved seems excessive these days when they’ve relaxed the rules on some of this stuff

CR. He outed himself as an oriental with slanty eyes who can’t see. It’s obvious the ball moved.

nah. the player is in control and should know to be careful. as soon as you start introducing subjective calls like that you open up the possibility of a ref altering the outcome like a stupid roughing the passer or pass interference call in football.

you realize that they have marshalls making all sorts of calls on the course in real time that have a major effect on the tournament?

i shouldn't have said "as soon as." what i meant is that if a rule can be enforced objectively it should be. there is no reason to introduce analyzing intent and impact when the onus is on the player to be careful.

in deep rough this almost only ever happens because when you put your club near grass the natural thing for grass to do is move, there is no competitive function to this rule, it does nothing, they have all sorts of rules where you can move the ball but can't improve your lie, no reason you can't apply that logic to inadvertant movement of the ball caused by a secondary object

players will often ask for rulings on what relief they can take where the official must in real time assess whether some random object can be moved of if they are close enough to a sprinkler etc

no reason an official can't look at the ball and say it has not been improved
