Think about it: who pays for the military? Largely the non-military taxpayer. That means their benefits will have to be cut substantially, or their taxes will have to go up substantially, and likely a combination of both. What does that do for social cohesion? What does that do for economic fairness? How is creating a large underclass of workers whose wealth is extracted without a say the right thing to do after fighting a war to end slavery?

Note as well that it's also fundamentally anti-American.
