Why do accounting firms have consulting arms, but law firms don't?

Then those consulting arms get too intertwined where the auditor is willing to overlook accounting malfeasance if they get enough consulting business. They the government makes them separate. And then a few years later, rinse and repeat.
Cap Gemini was spun off from EY as Cap Gemini Ernst & Young like 25 years ago because regulators asked to separate. And then a few years later, I guess EY started up another consulting unit.
Accenture was born out of the Arthur Anderson implosion. Though I don't know if Accenture does audit today. |

there's a whole wide range of white-collar professional services in M&A etc where it's sort of interchangeable who does it (accountant vs lawyer vs consultant vs financial analyst). |
