I put about 100k per year in my cash balance plan. Plus 401k max both employer and employee amounts ($66k), and HSA max.

That, plus some 529 plans, and I hope to retire after 15 more years.

Is the idea that in 10 or whatever years u stop working and just convert 200k/yr into roth while use savings for spending on things?

If I put $ into cash balance I avoid Medicare tax forever, which is only 2%. I will not avoid ssn since it's maxed out anyway. My tax bracket may be 37%. But if I'm married in the future and quit my job and live off savings I can convert 380k/yr to roth at 24%? So 15% save rate

If I put 150k into cash balance in a year and end up paying 15% less tax on that layer on, i.e. 24% instead of 39%. Is this the same as getting 200k instead of 150k w2? Or is the difference more substantial because of that extra 3-5% yield over 10 years?

Just thought of this. If instead of putting 150k into cashbalance I just pay 40% tax and invest it , I cannot even convert it into roth. I'll be taxed again each time I make a trade or if I keep it in savings get taxed 40% on that 4% interest. Cash balance will yield 3-5% and be converted into roth at 24% tax max. I'd have to beat the market each year to even try to match that.
