Date: September 6th, 2024 3:55 PM Author: sienna stock car Law360 (September 5, 2024, 5:18 PM EDT) -- A Colorado federal judge held a prominent 2020 election denier in contempt Wednesday for refusing to answer key questions during a deposition in a defamation suit brought by a former Dominion Voting Systems executive and then walking out in defiance, hitting the conspiracy theorist with a $1,000-per-day fine until he coughs up requested information.
Podcast host Joseph Oltmann's unfounded conspiracy theory that former Dominion executive Eric Coomer had rigged the 2020 election to ensure Donald Trump's loss was picked up by Trump attorneys at the time, like Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, as well as various conservative news outlets, and is central to a web of lawsuits filed by Coomer. That includes a lawsuit against the Trump campaign itself.
In the lawsuit in which Oltmann was held in contempt Wednesday, Coomer is suing the ThriveTime podcast and the ReAwaken America Tour, along with their founder, Clayton Clark, alleging they promote Oltmann's false claims about Coomer, along with appearances by Oltmann himself.
