chicks with tats aren't necessarily chattel but they have succumbed to a degree of commodification that would certainly qualify as service to commerce before service to any sort of prospective partner. i do not know how it got this bad but it did. i think that for whites and this was generally a big selling point in my limited but present understanding of contemporary cultural history there was the facade of "white american" cultural legitimacy through that big push regarding naval tattoos, "sailor jerry" (both a rum and a tattoo artist, iirc), and the manufactured cultural history regarding this artificial pastiche of burlesque culture around it

troma films' "toxic avenger" (soon for a remake, starring the characteristically vulgar game of thrones dwarf) was sort of about this, albeit in a very roundabout and symbolic way
