A panorama captures nothing and is a visual annoyance. The only emotion it instills is "oh wow, that's a panorama".

I have yet to see a panorama that wouldn't be better off as a regular landscape-oriented photo focusing on a smaller portion

they are misused but can provide amazing immersive experiences for the right landscape and on the right viewing platform. the problem is the massive scale and how much (or how little) of the angular view you can see at once.

if you are viewing a 360 degree pano on a phone or tablet when fully zoomed out, you'll never see any details of a most outdoors scenes. once you zoom in, your mind forgets about the other portions as you scroll.

but on a 40 inch widescreen 1080 or 4k monitor, you can see a great deal at once and feel immersed.
