the H affects pronunciation of things around it even though it is not pronounced
edit: to build on this, think about the E in "shine"
we don't pronounce it, but it affects the pronunciation of the "I" earlier in the word: if you remove the "E" the word is "shin," which has a different "I"

Because I'm a native speaker and I don't have to "think" about the rules of speaking French I just do it naturally homeboy. Could you write down all the rules of English? No. But you know how to talk in it and not sound like a faggot (though I have my doubts).
In what goddamn dialect is the H pronounced and don't say Canada because they are literally just British people who have been anglicized. I have never once heard an H pronounced in French by real French people. It does not exist. I don't want to hear about chiac or any of this nonsense because it's not real French. I'll wait

> Because I'm a native speaker
there's absolutely no fucking way you're a native French speaker and would claim that H doesn't do anything in the language
> Could you write down all the rules of English?
If you asked me a specific question about spelling, yeah pretty sure i'm not a complete retard and therefore could answer the question, or at least have the self-respect to say "i don't know"

"Anecdotal experience here: I come from Moselle, a region of France close to the German border (we were actually in Germany between 1871 and 1918).
My grandmother, born in 1927, pronounces the h muet as [h] in certain words.
Example:
"Elle l'a happé": 'she caught it'
[ɛl:ahape] (I think that was how she pronounced it).
I haven't got any proof to confirm it though, nor do I have any paper on the subject."
LMAO only krauts living in France are mispronouncing the H!

Don't listen to the retard above.
There is h muet (silent) and h aspiré (voiced).
Je hais les hamacs. Les Halles. These are h aspiré. It's not pronounced like English, but it is voiced.

entirely false mon gars lmao
the only ice niggaz pronouncing the h in hockey are anglicized Canadians.
you are really just misconstruing the fact that your ear has become really accustomed to the liaison. Of course if you wrote les alles your brain would naturally pronounce the zed liaison lezalles. But if you did not pronounce the liaison there is no other way to pronounce les alles. You just think in your mind that it's different but it's really not different. It is exactly the same. Try saying "le océan" instead of l'océan. It's exactly the same. There's no actual effect of the H. I can link you to a French lesson where it is fully revealed that h aspiré does not make a sound lol
