tashlich with bread crumbs is some reform thing, and nobody seems to know the history of how it developed, but orthos never throw bread crumbs in.

orthos do tashlich by going to a body of water and say some prayers and psalms, which i did already. no bread.

the proof that the bread crumb thing is made up reform shit is that tashlich is traditionally done the 1st afternoon of rosh hashana. and festivals like RH have most of the same restrictions as shabbat, which means you cant feed animals. so throwing food into a lake would be feeding the animals, and would be doing melacha (work). thus, the bread crumb thing cant possibly be an authentic jewish custom.

on shabbat, the string (eiruv) just allows you to carry from a private domain to a public domain. it's so you can carry permissible shabbat items, but it doesn't allow you to break other shabbat prohibitions.

aside from that, along with cooking, carrying is one of the rare shabbat restrictions that you CAN do on a festival (yom tov). so you don't even need a string (eiruv) on rosh hashana. so the string is totally irrelevant for RH purposes.

and the string (eiruv
