Were the "Will Smith slap was staged" posters all flame?

I think it was staged. Not flame.
Why is this so weird to people? Watch the video. Chris Rock was standing with his chin out and hands behind his back, and Will Smith barely touched his chin with his fingers and slapped his shoulder with his left hand to make a sound.

1) Oscars ratings are plummeting YoY. 2022 was forecast to be the worst in decades, and this was predictable since there were no broadly interesting movies, stars, or newsworthy host stories.
2) The WORST thing for the Oscars, and Hollywood, is to become irrelevant. Good, bad, whatever, if no one is talking about the Oscars the next day, that is death.
3) If not for SLAPGATE, what would have been the most notable moment of the Oscars? Would anyone have been talking about it?
