My uncle tried to convince my grandfather to “sporterize” his M1917 from the war and grandpa told him to fuck off. I’m so glad he had taste because it’s a beautiful rifle and hanging in my office today. I shoot it every couple of years when my dad and brother are in town for nostalgia.

Leave vintage rifles well enough alone. But if you want to go buy a Q Fix, hell yea, have at it.

Ammo for these is still pretty cheap too

You can still find decent Russian or Bulgarian surplus ones for fair prices but it's nothing like pre-COVID where crates were coming over en masse from Eastern European distributors and selling individually for 150-200$ silver talents
