9+3 is the new model. 9 conference games plus 3 shit opponents. nonconference rivalry games are done here. the goal is allow no more than 2 losses a season (that gets you into the playoffs)

ND could still play USC every year. just in the beginning of the year - not the end (they chose not to do this). Or, they could put on the big boy pants and join the big ten.

Their schedule is fine and the issue is overblown; they tend to schedule these series (plural; apparently series is the plural of series) with elite teams like 6 years in advance and teams rise and fall in that timeframe. Between now and like 2030, they've got texas, alabama, michigan, and auburn.

Teams colluded against ND on the cfp this year, yes, and they were in the wrong to do so. The main culprit, though, was the preexisting rule about conference champs, as JMU and Tulane were obviously far more egregious than alabama and miami. The real "policy question" raised by this whole snafu is how, and whether, these conference championship games should be valued and allowed to continue (for my money, the SEC championship is often great, whereas the ACC one is usually an embarrassment played in some half-full stadium), as no one's going to participate in them if they know they're going to get dinged by the Committee for a loss in one, so some degree of gay-as-fuck "protection" has to be applied--you can clearly see, if you are not a total hack, how anyone approaching this question with any perspective other than "I want to promote conference championships at all costs" will think this is a faggy as fuck conundrum.

They were fags (IMO) for not playing in a bowl this year, as I always think that's a butthurt move that's disrespectful to the few real student-athlete seniors left in cfb. They also need to fucking work harder and get USC back on the schedule, because a real risk to cfb--that is not ND specific--is the drying up of rivalries in favor of Big10 astroturfing like oregon v. psu.

ND is a flash in the pan every 5-10 years and then zilch, coasting on their 1988 Title and outrageous boomer "tv deals" that no one cares about anymore, childishly demanding a spot in the playoffs and someone getting a guaranty as a result, etc.
