16 pet cats have suddenly disappeared in Bangor, Maine. No remains were found.
Experts don't believe an animal did this.
Bangor just had an influx of Haitians. |

yeah pet sematary really doesn't work as a movie at all imo
it's one of king's best books, but that's largely because it's all about mood and dread and sadness.
a better filmed version of the monkey's paw theme is Deathdream AKA Dead of Night by Bob Clark (the Canadian genre-genius who gave us Black Christmas, Porky's, and A Christmas Story). It's basically a feature length version of the part in Pet Sematary where they flashback to the young man who got buried there, but much better.
It's a vicious and creepy and sad antiwar story about a Vietnam KIA who comes back home thanks to his mother's fervent wishes that he live. But, of course, he's come back wrong, and the cold cruelty of the Vietnam war returns to suburban America.
I ranted in my movie review thread about how the knee-jerk anti-militarism stance of The Blob remake rubbed me the wrong way since it seemed like cheap posturing. In contrast, this is a savage anti-war movie and a creepy little gem. |

yeah i'm a big fan of king. of course his adaptations are very hit or miss. i never regret watching a cheesy 80s movie though. i love silly 80s slashers. watched slumber party massacre last week too. |

Date: September 23rd, 2024 1:34 PM Author: The Migrants' Pet Appetites (No Future) The original is very good; you probably knew this but it was written by popular writer Rita Mae Brown as a feminist send-up of the slasher, but then sort of filmed at face value but not really.
The result is something that's very playful in terms of gender and pop Freudianism, but not at all scolding or didactic; it's more quirky fun touches like the fact that all of the traditionally masculine roles in the movie (like the electricity workers in the beginning) are played by chicks.
You guys should watch Chopping Mall, it's 180. The platonic ideal of '80s cheese. Basically a slasher movie but the killer is a suite of rogue security robots in a mall. Great music, good production by Roger Corman, has little film nerd jokes and cameos for faggots like me who enjoy that stuff, some okay nudity, and good fun violence. |
