trump is not noblesse oblige. he is over-the-top ostentatiousness to the point of caricature. *this* is why trump's mcdonald's stunt works. it would be comically uncomfortable for charles III or a rockefeller to do anything like this because they take class consciousness far too seriously. trump just wants to be flashy and entertain, which connotes "high class" in a superficial symbolic sense but in its core nature is actually low class and therefore relatable to the common man. this is why black doods in the hood love trump and don't even know who charles iii is. and this is why the mcdonald's stunt works. with trump it creates a hilarious image of a rich guy doing poor shit but there is zero tension because everyone feels kind of at home with each other.
someone like charles iii would never do this and if he did it would be horrifically uncomfortable for everyone involved, and he would immediately go home and take an hour long bubble bath to cleanse himself of prole germs.
btw this is what makes trump the perfect american politician. at heart he is a showman who intuitively understands the common man, because he is more common man than noble. |
