People who say art is just as good in 2026 as 1976 are profoundly mentally ill

One of the most disturbing takes people have is they say that art these days is just as good but we don't understand it because we're old. It makes absolutely no sense. How do we know the Sistine Chapel is good art? How do we know the pyramids are profound? There has to be some objective measure. There has to be an innate concept of taste that lasts longer than a human lifetime.
Conversely we have to have a concept of what makes art bad no matter how popular it gets. Billions of people can like something and still be wrong. Without taste and without criticism we have no way of measuring greatness.
The people who want to promote Gen Z art want to live in a world where it's impossible to tell what's good and what isn't, what's memorable and what's forgettable. They want to tear down the pillars of consciousness and replace it with bland malaise.
If you honestly cannot fathom or figure out why mumble rap and 2020s pop sucks and is horrendous, you're either a mental midget or an agent of Satan. There is no viable counterargument rooted in logic and reason that would put 'Begonia' ahead of 'The Godfather.' We must be a society of rules and laws and if we don't have a yardstick with which to measure creative achievement then we're totally lost as a society, which I think is probably the point from the other side.

The people alive today aren’t capable of “getting” art. So there’s no demand for it
Speaking even for myself, we just don’t live in a world that’s capable of art anymore. Our brains are fully Enframed in the heideggerian sense. We don’t perceive or experience ourselves and the world around us in a way that allows us to “get” art
