lol, white women sticking it to asians even harder:

Carly Fiorina Says the Chinese Aren't 'Terribly Imaginative'

According to Carly Fiorina, the Chinese people suffer from a creative block.

In a video filmed by the Iowa political blog Caffeinated Thoughts before she announced her presidential candidacy, Fiorina explains her opposition to Common Core educational standards by noting a key rationale for instituting the federal benchmarks.

"I also think the argument for Common Core is frequently, 'oh, we've got to compete with the Chinese,'" Fiorina said. "I've been doing business with the Chinese for decades and I will tell you that yeah the Chinese can take a test, but what they can't do is innovate. They're not terribly imaginative. They're not entrepreneurial. They don't innovate—that's why they're stealing our intellectual property."

Fiorina added that, in contrast to the Chinese, America needed an education system that inspired creativity.

"One of the things we have to maintain about our school system, which comes with local control, is to teach entrepreneurship, innovation, risk taking, imagination. These are things that are distinctly American, and we can't lose them," Fiorina said.

China is #2 in R&D now and will overtake the US in next 7-10 years. There is more innovation in China than anywhere else on the globe except the US and soon that "except" will go away.

You should open a scientific journal or two. Aside from Chicoms and Indians arent too many other names in any of them today. The Chicoms are increasingly Chicom Chicoms and not Yankee Chicoms. In certain areas like material sciences China and Chinese today are generating 70% of the research. In aircraft composites and ceramics over half the research today is being done in China and it is wholly original work.

I'll believe they are producing things worth protecting when China institutes a basic regime of IP law and courts that actively protect it.

I've been working across the table from Chinese companies for a decade and I really haven't seen anything approaching innovation outside of some really impressive interpersonal money laundering schemes.

Hey shithead I actually work in BIGTECH and am on the EE side. I have a very good idea of where China is

The only scary thing about China is that they have along term strategic plan and have the political system that is methodically working towards achieving it which is not good for world peace. There is no foreseeable future where China or any country will overtake US in science /engineering/ technology

If anything the US technical edge has increased in the last decade compared to its closest competitors namely Germany/Japan/UK/France

Europe is dead in terms of its radio electronic industrial base. The US lead over Europe has grown and over Japan too. It has shrunk massively as compared to China and Russia for that matter too. Russia is starting to roll out 28nm now. The Chinese are heading to 10nm admittedly with substantial dependence on some key US inputs but nothing that with another $100 billion they couldnt ultimately supplant too. The Chinese are intentionally keeping a degree of dependence on US inputs precisely to prevent the confrontation you envision. If 15 years ago someone told you TSMC was heading to 10nm right with Intel and that Russia would be at 28nm nobody would believe it. At that point Russia was 20 years behind and China over 10. Today the Russians are under 5 years and the Chinese arent behind at all.

you still have no fckng idea

First TSMC is Taiwanese and China sucks in semiconductor manufacturing which is dominated by Intel, Samsung LSI and TSMC

Below them is Global foundries (ex AMD/IBM/Chartered), UMC (Taiwanese) and there is no Chinese company that is anywhere close to US/Taiwan/SK in semiconductor manufacturing

I know you are complete flame when you talk about 28nm which basically is 2 or 3 generations behind latest technology node. LJL at Russia going to 28nm NOW. Second nobody would doubt TSMC as they have been cutting edge for a while and going head to head with Intel. Third stop counting TSMC as Chinese. It has nothing to do with China

Its not that they are afraid its that regulatory BS makes entering the US market very hard. Yota has been selling the Yotaphone globally without a problem for 2 years now but cant get past your shitty FCC regs with a product that has sold 1.3 million units globally. Its a fucking joke trying to get a consumer device designed outside the US into the US market. You basically have to redesign your product and by the time you do the underlying tech is obsolete and you have to start over.

Yet there HTC, Samsung, Sony and Nokia are, just releasing phones like they're going out of style. No complaints from them. However, the Chinese, the masters of byzantine local regulations designed for protectionism are having the FIGHT OF THEIR LIVES trying to get a device stateside due to "regulations" every other country seems to have no issue with. Clearly this is the issue of our regulatory regime and not the fact that they would have a massive IP issue.

You need to take a step back and evaluate your argument.

Holy shit, if you are going to defend category errors and other blatantly flawed logic, at least find an example that doesn't prove *MY* point! The fact that Steve was able to do it THREE times (Apple 1.0, Pixar, Apple 2.0) while the people under him never did anything except when they were working for him, proves that he, not Wozniak or Jony Ive, was the secret sauce.

You have the whole situation completely backward. The rarest and most valuable skills are those that are actually the most intangible. If you compare Einsteins, Beethovens, and John Lennons with workhorses hanging out in Pfizer R&D, what you inevitably find about the ones who are seen as geniuses is that they were more philosophical or creative than the other dudes, not that they were better workhorses.

It was all about the big screen, the aluminum casing, the minimalist design and replacement of the awkward buttons with an unobtrusive wheel... Steve Jobs' championing of minimalism and button-free designs has completely changed electronics design forever. An area of engineering that was known for completely ignoring design now actually features some of the best design in the world, thanks to Jobs' vision.

By disparaging design as 'pretty colors' you give away the game: you want to downplay the importance of the human element in technology. But it's nonetheless there, stark and unavoidable as ever. Design does not just affect how things look; it also has an impact on how easy they are for consumers to use. Many people would abandon using the thing below just because it was so annoying to use.

As a general rule I dont think OEM "integrators" like Apple or Dell for that matter innovate. The innovation is done on the part of their suppliers. Apple doesnt develop the big screens for its phones -- it orders them and integrates them into a box. That's why 10 seconds after the iPhone everyone else got the same big screens for their phones too. Its the same with cars -- the innovation is done by parts suppliers like Magna or Tenneco that the average Joe has never heard of and today everyone sources their parts from the same places and the difference between that Ford and that Volkswagen or Toyota is laughably small and pretty much all branding since all the parts were actually designed by the same people at places like Magna and increasingly NOT at Ford or GM or Toyota. The OEM integrators in auto and in tech are increasingly just marketers of tech developed not by them.

Do you seriously think that an idea like "touch screens are better than buttons because they lead to gains in screen size" is not some kind of innovation? Certainly nobody before Steve seems to have thought of it or at least nobody actually influential in a company seems to have thought of it. Ideas that succeed with flying colors tend to be seen as obvious IN HINDSIGHT because, well, we've had them drilled into us and they become little more than a part of the landscape... But often the idea in its inception was revolutionary for its time.

Also, I oppose your logic explicitly on one point:

"Because 10 seconds after the iPhone had a touch screen touch screen phones aren't an innovation... It was really Magna or Tenneco that did the innovating."

This just fails. If Magna or Tenneco or whoever it was did the innovating, then only the companies THEY SUPPLY could get the touch screen... As it is, companies that even do their design in house have touch screens, so it's not [INSERT SUPPLIER HERE] who did the innovating *by your own logic*

A lot of Chinese I've met are actually insanely creative. Often a mix of creative insanity, love stuff that isn't just realistic, but you often get insane feats of creativity.

However, these were almost entirely Chinese boomers who never went through the Chinese education system, often with the help of the Cultural Revolution, so they escaped being turned into typical Asian super-study striver robots.

this is so fucking stupid.

the tired, shitty trope that we must TEACH KIDS TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX HURR DURP, by letting their **CREATIVITY** flower, propagated by dimwitted women & shitlib 'educators', is fucktarded.

that's not the purpose of k-12 education.

the reason the chinese are uncreative has nothing to do with education.
