I’d do high summer, sometime June to September. Ideally July to maximize wildlife viewing, especially whales.

You can see all of those two towns in a day each, that’s not really the draw. But I think you’d want a couple of days each for both paddling and sightseeing on a bigger boat. Call it 3 days in each if you’re hammering out activities each day. Add another for any hiking you want to do or any overnight sea kayaking camping. There were already some good guiding outfits there in the early 2000s, so I’m sure there’s reputable places that can offer a turnkey trip.

Guess it depends on your goals? If you’re wanting to see wildlife and to paddle and stuff, I’d stick with summer and its constant daylight.

I did a quick trip to Iceland in winter to see the northern lights and town felt like it was still alive. I dunno if it would be like that in Greenland’s smaller towns.

For sure, but the ice is there year round.

Picture a big day out paddling among icebergs and along towering glaciers in 40 degree temperatures that somehow feel warm in the sun. And a pod of orca bros come to see what’s up and circle you for a half hour. Later on a minke whale breaches just a dozen yards away, probably scared shitless and running from your orca pals.

I want to go back and do the NW passage someday and try to see polar bears and beluga whales like these guys: https://youtu.be/ci6xWTKkhRo?si=ku59he6CEiww-CFu

Very curious to hear if an ocean liner is a fun trip.

Also, with your travel style, ever thought of doing a more adventurous boat trip? Buy or charter a small explorer yacht for a few seasons and cruise the Norwegian fjords to Svalbard?

Have a boat, usually use it in the Carib. For more adventurous I am interested in Antarctica and a diving liveaboard in the Galapagos but my dive skills are not where I think they have to be for that to be safe and enjoyable at the moment. My buddy did a boat/ski expedition to Svalbard and said it was 180 would def consider doing the same in the future.

I’ve done the Nat Geo cruise in Antarctica and it was 180^180. But if I could do it again, and without the family, I’d want to go on Skip Novak’s Pelagic for that true Shackleton small sailboat experience.

We had a pretty sporty crossing of the Drake on the way there and even a big 400 ft ship with a modern bow was ROCKING. Then on the way back it may as well have been a lake.

I feel like cruising a smaller boat through the Patagonia fjords, or the Norwegian fjords would be my absolute favorite trip. Have it on the bucket list for retirement, especially if I can hit a number that would let me buy a used Nordhavn or something and run it for a few years in early retirement.

I've never actually watched any of his videos, isn't he a guy most watchmos hate? My next purchase will probably be a Gronefeld Principia 1941 Automatic. I had been tracking a new/unworn one on c24 recently and got to talking about it with my buddy at a bar, he realized there was only one with the salmon dial currently available for purchase and so spite ordered it from the bar to ensure he would get it before me.

DAT Gronefeld movement and finishing is 180 though, I see two are up on c24 now albeit for slightly more, might pull the trigger if they'd be willing to match the old price. Friend would be MAF. I love the idea of picking up a PP perpcal but for my lifestyle I just have a hard time thinking of when if ever i'd wear it, and spending that much $ for a piece that sits in my watch winder vs buying shit I will actually wear, IDK.

I've had a nasty headcold and haven't made it out past dinner yet for long but it depends. Since it's British everything is segregated by class. There are four different segregated dining areas (Queens, Princess, Kings, Brittania Club) and people in a lower one cannot access the spaces reserved for those above them. When you go into the free for all areas you see some proles that don't dress up at all, which is odd when you're in black tie.
