My first relationship happened at the turn of the 21st century, and I remember frequently using payphones at the mall and/or promenade type places to arrange pick up times with our parents.
And I also distinctly remember feeling reluctant to get a cellphone, even when my parents, my sisters, and my girlfriend's sisters all wanted me to have one.
My junior high girlfriend and I knew that something valuable was being lost - living in a reality unmediated by screens - and held out as long as we could. (She's a Mediterranean Catholicmo - coincidence? I don't think so. All heart.) |
