I love caffeine. I used to drink 2-3 coffees a day. But recently things changed. The coffee I've been drinking is so good (and so strong) that my body started reacting with palpitations and anxiety. I tried slowing down, taking breaks, skipping a day, then just having 2 shots the next. But even that wasn't enough. I get headaches and my heart is just beating way faster even after 24 hours without having had any coffee.

Now I'm afraid I'll only be able to drink coffee once or twice a week at most, and only a single shot. Coffee has always been my biggest pleasure in life, and it feels like God is spitting in my face with this new development.

Anyone else dealing with this issue? I know quite a few people who gave up coffee for one reason or another, but srsly, I was not planning on being one of them, ever.

Can be genetic and age related, basically ur response to caffeine changes and causes all those bad sides, could be bunch of shit, kidneys, liver etc

I just recommend resetting/slowing down and it will subside, give ur body a detox/break

I once had a thing where I had to stay up late while also staying focused without crashing, so had to drop the caffeine for a few weeks, felt really great in retrospect, you have the same level of mental clarity when u detox and get back to normal with added bonus of more stamina, that is if youve gotten used to a certain amnt of caffeine to do shit. just feels serene

felt really good honestly, miss that feeling of being off now, might get off rn

I've gone back to normal after quitting coffee, then back to feeling terrible each time I try again. At this point, I'll have to give it up for good and only have it as an occasional treat.

Just switch to decaf. I did this years ago and other than looking like an absolute pussy when ordering coffee it’s vastly superior.

It has a small amount of caffeine so once u adapt u still get a little stim increase but its not a ton which upsets ur stomach, makes u jittery, etc etc.

As I've gotten older and taken on more responsibilities/stressors, I can't handle more than a cup of coffee a day, and I can't have it after 11 AM or so. It makes me incredibly anxious if I have more than that one cup, and my sleep is fucked if I have some in the afternoon. People forget it has a pretty long half-life. I don't even have caffeine before workouts because the anxiety and jitteriness persists for hours after I finish my workouts. I'm so sensitive to it that I notice a difference when I have just 1.25 cups of coffee instead of one cup in the morning.

That's because you aren't trying the right coffee. I used to be like you. But I switched to expressos. Those will definitely make you feel more than 'something'. Of course, expressos in the US are shit, so you won't do it. I am in Europe and here expressos are delicious, but also real bombs.

What do you mean? I drank coffee heavily in the U.S. too, but back then the issue was ulcers. These days, after 2-3 weeks of daily double macchiatos, I get a neurological response, not a gastrointestinal one.

I'm talking about macchiatos in Italy, not in other parts of Europe, where the coffee is more like what you find in the U.S. These macchiatos are real caffeine bombs. It was 180... until it wasn't.

Try yerba mate, specifically something strong like Rosamonte. If you brew 10–20g and repeat it, you'll be gakked as hell. I also struggled to get that effect until I tried mate. But fair warning: I may have overdone it and messed myself up. Now I can't even handle the caffeine in regular coffee.
