We just got back from Anaheim, spent one day at Disney California Adventures (DCA) and one at Disneyland.
It was the first time for my mixed kids. My mixed son is 5 and my mixed daughter is 6.
First day we did at DCA. Of course I shelled out for the Lightening Lane (LL). I'm not CSLG lol.
Its been 30 years since I have been to Disneyland and I was a broke undergrad and didn't buy LL back then so I was a LL rookie.
Our plan was to bang out all the rides in Cars Land. My mixed kids have seen all the Cars movies 100 times ("Its Whitening McQueen!").
The standby line for the Cars ride was an hour at 9am. The LL window was something ridiculous like 9pm. So I make the call to wait for an hour in the standby line and then I booked Guardians of the Galaxy LL for noon.
We did not know anything about the Guardians ride other than my mixed son who is 42" tall was tall enough to ride it so we figured it was all good.
The Cars ride was 180 but my 5 year old mixed son said it was scary and didn't like it. My 6 year old mixed daughter loved it.
Now its like 10:05 am and we have two hours to kill before Guardians. I tried booking another ride with LL and it gave me an error message telling me I can only book one LL at a time.
I then realized the LL strategy: book the quickest to the longest rides, in that order. The Disneyland app shows you all the wait times for all the rides and the LL booking windows.
With LL, you basically walk right onto a ride with a 30-45 minute wait. You might wait 5-10 minutes.
So I started booking all those rides with shorter lines, banged all those out, then booked the big ticket rides for later in the day/night.
Anyways, back to the Guardians ride. I had it booked on LL for noon the first day. Its a huge towering building that reminded me of the Freefall ride at Six Flags, but a lot bigger.
Its Freefall on steroids.
The entire ride is in the dark and it shoots you all the way to the top, like 12 stories or something. FAST. Everyone is screaming except for me, I loved this ride, gets my vote for GOAT.
It stops suddenly and a movie sized screen opens and its the Guardians characters talking to you. Before they finish the scene you freefall a few stories, everyone still screaming, and then you abruptly stop and another scene opens up. Bam! you shoot back to the top again, another scene, another freefall. This happened like ten times.
The ride ends and I have never seen my mixed son's eyes so big. I can't even exaggerate it. And once he got out of his seat and reunited with us he started crying. And he didn't want to ride another ride for the remainder of the trip.
My black wife hates the rides that drop you so she hated it and was traumatized.
My mixed daughter hated it too but she took it like a trooper and didn't bitch about it again.
So yeah, don't take your little mixed kids on Guardians unless you want to traumatize them.
