A man is in the hospital in critical condition after police found a Jeep on fire with the man and his dog inside Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Kalmia Avenue and 28th Street, according to a press release.
Witnesses said the man inside the Jeep may have set himself and the car on fire around 3 p.m. before getting out of the car. They said the man tried to stab a passerby with a pair of scissors and then stabbed himself with the scissors, according to the press release.
Emergency personnel took the man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The dog also was injured. The dog escaped from the car when passersby opened the car doors, according to the release. A community member caught the dog and Boulder police animal protection officers responded and transported him for treatment.
