If you always cheer for the best team, then you stand the best chance of backing a winner, and cheering for a winning team is more fun than cheering for a losing team, not least because watching skilled players using smart strategies is better than watching mediocre players bash their heads against the wall. Yes, changing loyalties based on who's the best is called "bandwagoning," and supposedly bandwagoning is bad, but losers will always find ways to look down on winners, so you can't take that too seriously. A lot of the loyal fans of bad teams beat their wives when their teams predictably lose, that's the caliber of human being we're talking about.
