In other words, we’ll just be sending them a letter, and we love having them as a Trading Partner for many years to come.

Japanese people would love to buy cheap California rice, but it would drive Japanese rice farmers out of business and the country would become forever dependent on foreigners. Korea also has to protect its rice growers. Thailand and Vietnam are major rice exporters and DGAF, and Indonesia still imported shitrice from Vietnam last I checked, and gives it to poors at government aid centers.
