If the SoC has a yuge L3 cache like the AMD X3D series it would compensate for a lot of other shortcomings in GPU power, especially if frame rate is going to stay locked at 30fps (why wouldn't it?). It would basically ensure smoothness no matter what.

Oh well, it looks like that's not happening:

It looks like the most u can get is 8mb L3 cache. This will barely be an upgrade. Nvidia seems behind the ball on this.

It's not even being manufactured at TSMC. I thought Nvidia did all their business there but whatever.

It’s a Two Gen Leap. Switch 1 aligns closely with late 7th to early 8th-gen consoles. In contrast, the Nintendo Switch 2, powered by the T239 SOC with Ampere GPU cores, Arm Cortex-A78 CPUs, and a Samsung 8nm process node, closely approximates early 9th-gen console performance characteristics imho.

No shit. If they wanted to push the limits they would need to ensure frame rates NEVER dip below 30fps no matter what, and that's the one thing a big L3 cache does. If they're not doing that, they are keeping frame rates smooth by dialing back graphics quality, same as always. This is going to be a mass produced Samsung SoC, low production cost high volume shit.

OFN!
