obviously the marine biologist episode is great, it was very 180 how all the subplots tied together, but one episode doesn't redeem the show

Like the show being funny sometimes over 9 years versus Seinfeld being a billionaire is the conflict. He should have like $280,000,000k, tops.

Curb does the exact same kind of plots, just shot differently and no laugh track and many proles couldn’t get into it.

but a show with more hateable than lovable characters could never be one of my very favorites; that's what keeps e.g. Always Sunny out of my S-tier even though it's hilarious. my favorites have great ensemble casts of flawed but ultimately decent people - Psych, Parks and Rec, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, etc.

Im just separating Losers finding this stuff funny from proles being Told that it’s funny when they never would’ve laughed at any of it unless told to. It got more popular than it made sense for it to be.

Irl proles only laugh when something Bad happens to someone they don’t like, or when someone jokes about sex or something. For Seinfeld, you could just say "because it's funny," and that would be true and a large part of it. To try to engage a little more with the question, three specific things about Seinfeld that were clever and that help the show remain a good watch:

They did a great job playing with the unexpected. What happened to the breached whale? Kramer's golf ball!

They did a great job pulling together separate story lines. The woman who wouldn't give Elaine toilet paper, the woman at the 900 number Kramer calls, and Jerry's gf are all the same woman. "Don't call me any more.... You either."

They had fantastic characters that amplified ridiculous traits we see in ourselves and our friends, family members, coworkers, etc. These characters went up to the line of being "too much" without going over. "You think you could keep us out of Florida? We're moving in lock, stock and barrel. We're gonna be in the pool. We're gonna be in the clubhouse. We're gonna be all over that shuffleboard court! And I dare you to keep me out!"
