Mario Kart is not it. It has staying power because its like 20 differenet games and a good hang, but it isn't teh winner.
OOT - this is the winner for solo game that millenials have the most reverence of, but it wasn't really a part of school culture like Goldeneye. If you played it with friends you were torturing them. |

I would argue that WoW doesn't apply because it wasn't even released until 2004 and most of those sales occurred long after the millennial era. But if you define "quintessential" based on popularity, I think either Pokémon or The Sims is objectively the correct answer. Neither title was a favorite of hardcore gamers, but among casuals, they were the most popular titles by a mile. |
