the majority of physicians are employed by hospitals or medical groups. E.g. RWJ Barnabas and Atlantic Health Services.
The percentage of independent doctors who own their practices continues to diminish.
I recently had to switch primary care physicians because of this. The guy i'd been going to for years was a small office bro with 1 other doctor. Recently he sold his practice and became and employee a large entity.
He used to sit with me, take his time, ask questions, take notes on a pad, follow up etc. Now he has a computer and just inputs data following an auto-generated script. He was totally detached and visibly struggling with the software and technology.
