Isn't that what Londoners do naturally? Burn down their own city every 100 years?

There's nothing there. Some old bones and few fragments of SHIT in a fake burial site from paleolithic Babylon. There's more to see at the Holocaust museum

no they didn't, the goatfucking locals were digging through piles of sand for hundreds of years trying sell every trinket they could find and never bothered to dig a series of holes in an order, without us whites the entire history of the near east would have been lost to the world

you think Arabs were too stupid to dig up artifacts and sell them 900 years ago. 75% of Egyptian tombs got raided by other ancient Egyptians, that's why they started building them into cliff faces

Everything good went into private collections. Nothing shown to the public is worth shit except a few pieces here and there.

The only country with its shit together on this is Mexico, where they have everything but the Dresden Codex right there. 99.99% of Mayan artifacts are still there in the jungle

Detroit Institute of Art is better curated than this. Why is there exactly one of everything? Why is everything such a jumble?

You're supposed to fill out an application for the study room. You can't just walk in a museum and think that whatever you want is on display.

Picked over? You apply for time in the room with a list of items by inventory number. The BM has almost a million coins.

I was able to walk through some of those rooms, I just couldn't pull up a chair and look at items. Coin collections don't seem like a yuge deal since Scandinavians keep finding hoards of them buried in the ground

You have to send an application with inventory numbers weeks ahead of time. You can't just show up and demand things that take an hour to locate magically appear in front of you.

A lot of the smaller museums on the continent have more interesting regional-specific collections with rarities the big museums don't have.

Brits find tons of buried stuff as well. Some is interesting and important; most isn't. Interestingly, hoards in the UK are reported up through the local coroner... it makes sense, but it's strange from a US perspective.

They became FASCINATED with the middle east after they stole Napoleon's loot at the Battle of the Nile. A lot of that stuff was supposed to go to the Louvre

they were a much better people then apparently, it was like 50 years after that until they discovered that some of the assyrian cities mentioned in the bible were real, they had all just been wondering for hundreds of years like it was some fantasy book, must have been wild as fuck to see those lion motherfuckers in person for the first time in like 2500 years

They could have gone there at any time if they had the balls to talk to the Ottomans. Erasmus fetched Greek manuscripts of the New Testament out of there the 15th century. Europeans were skeptical whether the pyramids or the sphinx even existed until Napoleon went there and made drawings
