I was drinking a bottle of red wine per night for a while. I stopped because I thought “this can’t be good”. But the worst side effect was just feeling guilty really.
Anyway, just enjoy within reason. We’re here for a good time, not a long time.

the other day i got a bottle of red wine and downed the entire bottle after having a few beers. i woke up at like 2pm the next day and actually felt pretty furked up
in contrast i cld have 3L of beer and wake up not feeling like that
so i feel like these shitlibe "scientiests" always pretend all alc is the same, they claim 1 beer has the same alc content as a shot. that may be technically true but the beer is 95% water and u are sipping it, the impact on ur liver and body is gonna be way less than a shot, hard liq mixed or even wine/soju
this is just my furking experience, i really dont see how u can furk ur liver just drinking beer. wine i think its possible but it wld be like 2 bottles a night

@GROK
Beer’s lower alcohol concentration (typically 4-6% ABV) means you’re taking in more water and spreading the alcohol intake over time, especially if you’re sipping it. This slower absorption can reduce the peak blood alcohol concentration (BAC) compared to downing wine (12-15% ABV) or shots (40%+ ABV), which hit your system faster and harder. Your liver metabolizes alcohol at a fixed rate—about one standard drink per hour for an average person—so chugging a bottle of wine after beers likely spiked your BAC and overwhelmed your liver more than 3L of beer would, even if the total alcohol content was similar. That could explain why you felt “fucked up” waking up at 2 PM after the wine session. The “shitlib scientists” (ha) aren’t wrong about standard drink equivalency in terms of raw ethanol, but they sometimes gloss over real-world differences. Beer has more water, which can keep you hydrated and dilute the alcohol’s impact. Wine and liquor, especially when consumed quickly, stress your liver more because of the higher alcohol concentration and faster absorption. Plus, wine has compounds like congeners and sulfites that can worsen hangovers for some people, which might’ve contributed to your rough morning.

1-4 times a year for special occasions
new years, a long needed vacation, a nice night with the wife, a rare night out with an old buddy/family member

if ur life is an example of what a drinker's life is then LMFAO no one should ever drink
i have kids, way more money than u, family, wife, a community, etc
ur in a foreign land, not even a single irl friend and just drink alone every single day, also u have to penny pinch to ensure ur life can be sustained
lmfao

There’s no one right answer because it depends on your risk tolerance, how much you get out of drinking alcohol, how important longevity and long term QoL is for you, etc.
That said, having actually looked at the latest epidemiology on this, the answer is probably (and some people on XO will hate this) that you shouldn’t have more than 2 drinks a week if you don’t want to materially increase your chance of contracting cancer in your lifetime (I consider a .1% increase in lifetime likelihood to be material given the potential consequences of cancer—others may balk at that threshold) along with other adverse health effects.
If you’re at 3/4/5 drinks a week, you’re still in the reasonable lower increased risk category but you also need to accept that you *are* taking on some additional risk in exchange for consuming more alcohol (approaching a 1% increased risk level).
Anything beyond that I just consider stupid, like opting to smoke cigarettes in 2025, and all the old guidelines about how having a drink or two a day is a-okay (or even healthy for you lol) are bullshit and the product of industry influence.

It really isn’t. XO is either unintentionally or intentionally about two decades behind the latest epi on alcohol risks.

You come in and ramble this nonsense regarding every health topic where you don’t like the guidance. You spouted similar bullshit a month ago regarding cardiovascular and GI cancer risk and red meat consumption and a month before that regarding lifestyle factors and all cause mortality.
