xo guitarmos: please help me teach my 12 year old daughter guitar.

Date: June 19th, 2026 9:49 AM Author: provocative shivering center I'm not a "real" guitarist. Mostly self taught, basically no technical knowledge or advanced skillset but i've been playing long enough that I can do a few hackey things to fool the ignorant.
Daughter is very musical. Much more so than I am. She has a couple years of school violin but no private lessons which is prob a mistake. She's a great singer too and has expressed an interest in learning guitar kind of as an accompaniment.
Within 30 or so min yesterday I taught her all of the open chords and she was already able to switch pretty smoothly including G to D. Immediately she also had the coordination to sing while playing.
I'd like her also to learn the fretboard and have a deeper understanding of the instrument but i don't want her to be a clown hack like her dad. She's already really busy, so I don't think formal lessons are realistic right now.
Looking for suggestions for exercises, concepts, resources etc. to share with her. Ty. |

So the proper instruction thing is what I'm after. I really know shockingly few chord structures and nothing that could be described as "theory". My technical knowledge is limited to knowing basical major/minor scales, first 2 modes, relative major/minor, pentatonic scale. Where can I go to find good exercises or resources to teach her stuff that I don't know? |
