People were already using scripts to archive this place before. If you are worried about data sniffing and anonymity then tor helps but no SSL on the clearnet still opens you to exit node attacks. There is no way it was ever implemented correctly on here though. SSL cryptography has mathematical hardness but it’s only as strong as the weakest part of its implementation and even after years of people trying to harden it there are still dozens of ways around it. You can have a strong cloudflare firewall setup with strict transport and no deprecated TLS versions and forced HTTPS and there are still so many ways around it.
