This route is only 800km under its max range. Sometimes ChatGPT says its only possible with stops but now it claims its okay. Before they had a 767 which is why I booked the flight as i prefer widebody but now on Weds it seems they fly a 737-800 which is gonna suck as its a 6h flight. Inshallah maybe it wont be fully booked as ChatGPT said its better if not max payload
The Boeing 737-800 has a typical maximum range of around 2,935 nautical miles (5,436 km) with standard seating and reserves.
Flight Distance:
Port Moresby (POM) to Singapore (SIN)
≈ 2,550 nautical miles (≈ 4,720 km)
Verdict:
✅ Yes, the 737-800 can fly nonstop from POM to SIN under normal load and weather conditions — it's within range.
✈️ Some airlines operating longer 737-800 flights use auxiliary fuel tanks or optimize passenger and cargo loads to maximize range. So for a direct commercial route, it is technically feasible, but operational limits (like payload, wind, etc.) could affect it.

jfc Grok confirms too, i was hoaping it was all a lie but recently they 737 showed up on flightaware for that route
Yes, a Boeing 737-800 can fly from Port Moresby (POM) to Singapore (SIN). The distance between Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport (POM) and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is approximately 4,947 km (3,074 miles). The Boeing 737-800 has a maximum range of around 5,765 km (3,582 miles), depending on configuration, payload, and fuel load. This makes the route well within the aircraft's operational capabilities for a nonstop flight.
In fact, Air Niugini, the national airline of Papua New Guinea, operates nonstop flights between POM and SIN using Boeing aircraft, though historically they have used the Boeing 767-300 for this route. While the 737-800 is not currently listed as the primary aircraft for this specific route by Air Niugini, it is technically feasible given the range and the airline's experience with Boeing narrow-body aircraft. The flight duration would typically be around 6 hours and 30 minutes, depending on wind conditions and routing.
So, to answer your question—yes, a Boeing 737-800 can fly from POM to SIN without needing a stopover, assuming standard operating conditions and appropriate fuel planning.
