first poet was a straight white hicklib who had poems about queering the west, no exaggeration.
whatever, write what you want to write about. But he began his remarks by saying, "first before I begin I want to say sincerely, Free Palestine, Free Congo, Free Sudan." Smattering of applause.
I was disgusted. Wtf does this mean, coming from someone who depends on our agreeing he has some artistic vision or wisdom worth listening to in silence?
What, actually, does free P, free C, free S mean? Does he have some real passion for these three nations, on all of planet earth? If so... he is probably 28, fit enough, white and smart. Fighting age. Why does he not GO to one of these places and "free" them, whatever that means? I presume it means put in place one particular government over another, which is a violent process, so go do violence!
Instead he is writing poems for an MFA degree.
Really, how dare he recite his little creed if it means nothing, costs him nothing, is insulting posturing. Go free fucking Palestine bro. Or if not, shut up about it.
anyway, its not that deep. he simply received this little credo from media / academics, it is completely empty, but he is saying "i am a good church man", nothing more. Fine then, but that means youre not a good poet, so stfu. |
