Clubbing in Korea is absrudly expensive because of the expectation of throwing down for bottles of champagne, and you can't roll in with a crew of 10 bros and split a table with 2 bottles.

If I rolled to a club with 3 guys on a typical night the spend would easily be over $2,000.

This started changing around 2007 when Koreans genereally started having more disposable income so middle class Koreans started visiting higher end "booking" clubs as well. The masses invading the high-end booking clubs destroyed the entire purpose of these clubs. Elite women weren't spending $200+ a night to mingle with commoners.

So, a huge demand existed for non-booking dance clubs. And so the boom of dance clubs started around 2007 with the creation of the first "elite" dance club (Circle), followed by Mass, Heaven, Elui, Answer, etc. When the elite women left for these dance clubs, all the elite men followed, then followed by the masses.

Elite women's calculus is as follows: if I'm going to be surrounded by commoners, I may as well be able to choose the most attractive one, and they may as well pay for my drinks. No point in spending $200 to get dragged around by a waiter to go meet some ugly broke commoner.

So booking clubs are all but dead, except for those catering towards married men and women, who for obvious reasons don't go to dancing clubs. Back until 2007, most of the women I met at booking clubs were elite and from wealthy families from places like Chungdam and had studied abroad in Paris, Geneva, etc. In 2009, probably 95% of the women I met did not even live in Seoul and couldn't speak any English at all.
